About
My name is Todd Eastman. I’m a freelance photographer, digital artist, web & graphic designer based in Windsor, California. I’ve had my site up for a couple of months now, and I have to admit that my content has been pretty boring. How many other freelancers are already out there with their blogs and portfolios online? How much time can I spend tweaking the look and feel of my website? I would much rather spend my time doing creative things, and spending less energy on things that aren’t helping me.
So I decided that my website needs to completely change direction. What can I possibly say or do that is going to be of interest to anyone? There are already tons of websites that provide resources and material for other designers. Tutorials are everywhere you look, and frankly I am not sure I am really good enough yet to create a tutorial of my own.
I finally realized that the only hope I have of making my website really interesting, is to do something very few freelancers will do. I’m going to openly share the joys, frustrations, obstacles, and dreams of someone who is just getting started as a freelance graphic designer, and will use this blog to share my story. My story will be different, because my situation is very different. You see, I am no longer a young person just starting out in the world. I have years of cynicism, wisdom, experience, and frustrations to deal with. My original background is in Information Technologies. I used to be a Microsoft biased techie-nerd. I’ve worked in the trenches, and I’ve worked in upper management. But at some point, I began looking at the Mac and graphic design. I’ve always been into visual art, have had some things win awards, and generally prefer the lifestyle of a Mac-using artist as compared to that of a Microsoft enslaved techie.
So I have my digital shingle hanging outside my door. I hope you enjoy my journey.
